For our latest Dukhni Amal Project update, we turned our attention to a basic necessity that is urgently needed in Yemen: clean and reliable water.
Yemen continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis, with communities already experiencing limited access to essential services while disease outbreaks, flooding and other climate-related shocks add to the challenges people face. Cholera and acute watery diarrhoea continue to affect communities across the country, making access to safe water more important than ever.
With this immediate need in mind, we chose to support One Nation UK’s Gift of Water Program, donating 10 water tanks to communities in Yemen.
Each tank has a capacity of 6,000 litres, providing a combined capacity of 60,000 litres of water.
A Gift That Keeps Giving
The Prophet Muhammad SAW said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.” [Ahmad]
Water is one of the simplest necessities of life, yet for many communities, access to clean and reliable water can be a daily challenge.
That is why providing water carries a significance far beyond the moment of donation. It can become a form of Sadaqah Jariyah, an ongoing charity whose benefit continues long after the initial act of giving.
With every sip of water, every meal prepared, every act of cleanliness and every moment made easier through access to water, the impact continues.
More Than Water
These tanks are not simply containers filled with water. They represent relief, dignity and opportunity.
Reliable access to water can help families drink, cook and maintain hygiene, while making everyday acts of worship and cleanliness easier. It can also reduce the burden on women and children who may otherwise have to travel long distances to collect water, while helping families care for their livestock and protect their livelihoods.
And the benefit extends beyond people. Every animal or bird that drinks from this water is part of the impact too.
From Yemen, to Yemen
Yemen holds a particularly meaningful place in Dukhni’s story. Our heritage traces back to Aden, Yemen, where our family’s tradition of making bakhoor began over a century ago.
Today, through the Dukhni Amal Project, we are grateful for the opportunity to give back to communities in the region that has been part of our story for generations.
Our donation of 10 water tanks, each holding 6,000 litres, means 60,000 litres of water capacity made available through this initiative.
It is a small contribution towards a much greater need, but we hope it becomes a source of lasting benefit for the communities it reaches.
