Muattar is not lit directly with a match or lighter. It requires a medium to burn, the Dukhni burner or an electric burner. This allows the wooden chips to release its fragrance slowly and evenly, without scorching.

A few chips (8-10) is enough for a standard-sized room. Using too many can smother the burn instead of releasing more fragrance.

Yes. On the Dukhni smokeless burner, it burns for approximately 3–3.5 hours, with fragrance lasting up to 6 hours as it releases steadily. Once the piece hardens, simply discard it and replace with a fresh one.

Around 15 minutes is enough, that's when the infused oils fully release their fragrance. Burning longer just gives off a burning smell instead.
